ProTeam Environmental Charter

We conduct our business and operations with a plan to manage our environmental impact. Our responsibility for the environment involves all aspects of our business, including supply chain, manufacturing, and sales and marketing efforts, as well as educating and encouraging our employees to conserve resources. In an effort to maintain a leadership role in protecting the environment, we continually evaluate our processes and seek opportunities to promote sustainability and improve environmental performance. Our goal is for our Company and all of our employees to be stewards of the environment and maintain compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations.

Impact on the Environment
When we started ProTeam in 1987, minimizing our environmental impact was a defining factor in our company’s development, and continues to inform our product designs, use of materials and communication efforts today. Paying attention to the footprint we leave on the environment is of utmost importance to us, and for over 20 years we’ve taken strides to keep that footprint as small as possible.

Protecting the environment—both indoors and out—is at the forefront of our operations. Every vacuum we manufacture—from our first vacuum invention, the lightweight commercial backpack, to our current suite of 19 vacuums for every cleaning need—is designed with maximum filtration, efficiency, ergonomics and sustainability. Our vacuums are leaders in cleaning deeper and faster with less user effort or strain, require less repairs and replacement parts, and improve cost savings and indoor air quality. And our vacuums last years rather than months. All of this lets us breathe easier at the end of the day, because we know we’re putting the health of our customers and our planet at the forefront of all that we do.

Product Design
Overall environmental impact has been a design priority for every ProTeam vacuum since our start in 1987. With the innovation of the lightweight backpack vacuum, we made a cleaning tool that allows workers to move with greater efficiency and ergonomic comfort while getting a faster, deeper and healthier clean. EPA data shows that indoor air pollutants that cause asthma and allergies are up to five times higher than outdoor levels. In all, asthma costs the U.S. $10 billion annually in direct health care costs and lost productivity. Our Four Level® Filtration and HEPA Level Filtration® systems help clean the air at the microscopic level as you vacuum, so there is less potential for allergies and associated medical costs.

Our vacuums are made to last, and they do—for years—which helps cut down on our growing landfills. With superior ergonomics built into every one of our machines, user body strain is eliminated, user safety is increased, and sick leave and health costs are reduced. ProTeam vacuums help you vacuum better, faster, and the time and money you save by incorporating our vacuums into your cleaning program can be allocated to other important areas of work. Plus, we have vacuums that are ideal for day cleaning, further helping you to cut down on utility use and utility bills.

Our powerful motors and suction-only designs eliminate the need for beater bars. This gentler touch helps extend the life of your carpets and floor surfaces—reducing the rate at which flooring materials make it into our landfills. Plus, with fewer moveable parts on our vacuums, and with vacuum body parts and filters that are easily washable, it means fewer replacement materials and less to throw away.

Today, ProTeam continues to focus on design innovation as a key component to a green future. Billions of square feet are cleaned every day. We believe that cleaning should focus on improving indoor air quality and energy efficiency. We now manufacture HEPA- and ULPA-filtration vacuums to trap the smallest harmful pollutants, quiet-running vacuums to allow for cleaning during the day, and battery-powered vacuums for greater versatility and efficiency.

Recycling
At ProTeam, we strive for a green corporate culture and take concrete steps to make sure most everything we send out to the trash goes in the recycle bin. Our shipping containers are recyclable corrugated cardboard and our molded vacuum bodies are made from recyclable plastic resins. Everyone in our offices has a recycle bin next to their desk to make the bigger job of sorting and recycling refuse easier. We have recycle bins for plastic, aluminum and paper products in all our break rooms, lunch facilities and warehouse walkways. We consistently try to source recyclable materials and implement processes that help optimize production and protect the air we breathe. And with our vacuums built to last—and they do, for years—we’re responsible for sending less man-made materials to our growing landfills.

Education
Since the introduction of the ProTeam backpack vacuum, our focus on education is a core business philosophy. We believe everyone involved with ProTeam should understand how cleaning affects health, and how to improve the process for efficiency. Our educational efforts center on Cleaning for Health®, Team Cleaning®, and our impact on the indoor environment.

Online outreach:
All of our educational materials, including how-to guides and videos, are available for online download or viewing—saving on printing, paper and mailing costs. We also offer instructional sheets and guides online, instead of mailing them with replacement parts.

Green Partnerships and Designations
ProTeam is partnered with the American Lung Association in a campaign designed to promote public awareness and education about indoor air quality issues.

All ProTeam vacuums qualify for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) 2009 under the new credit number IEQ Credit 3.4 (previously 3.7). This requires our equipment to:

  • Be certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) “Green Label” testing program for vacuum cleaners
  • Operate with a sound level of less than 70dBA
  • Be ergonomically designed to minimize vibration, noise and user fatigue
  • Come with safeguards, such as rollers or rubber bumpers, to reduce potential damage to building surfaces

  • Put simply, ProTeam is committed to helping the planet through sustainable business practices, environmentally focused partnerships, and achieving the highest industry green and efficiency standards for ratings.
